Out of all of the popular music genres the crown of prolific output must surely go to Rock.Rock music has it’s origins in the fifties and found it’s own 2 feet in the 1970′s and ever since it has been one of the most top selling music genres of all time. So many classic rock hits have been made and they have pushed the boundaries of audio production and engineering and allowed this exciting music genre to shine. Across the globe stadiums were filled, crossing boundaries and making it’s way into the popular culture of virtually every major city in the world.Rock began and it’s here to stay. Like many genres of music it has the scope for new forms and various different rock styles were created. With different influences it has split into sub genres where you have straight rock, heavy rock, metal rock (with numerous sub genres), soft rock, power ballads, Americana and blues and country inspired rock as well. The recording industry learned it’s chops with rock music as it progressed through the 1970′s, some of the best techniques and equipment were tested out when recording and mixing this highly successful music genre. The skills of the band, producer and engineers were pushed and it culminated in some of the best recordings ever made in the history of the music industry. These days rock bands may be doing it for themselves, of course many will still hire a space in which to record and mix but many will be investing time, money and effort in recording themselves.Obviously great results can be created but it is wise not to forget about mastering.Mastering is less expensive than it used to be, in part due to the online mastering model. Mastering takes the rock mixes you have created and adds that final layer of polish to the mixes to get them sounding just right. The mastering engineer will adjust dynamics, eq and perceived volume levels and get the tracks flowing into each other nicely. In addition he will add fades, spacing and ensure a pre master format is error free and sounds just right before duplication or replication. With online mastering the audio can be sent over the internet or you can receive master disks ready for sending to the duplication plant via Special Delivery postage. Online mastering can be very good value but do ensure you check out the engineers background, recent clients, the quality of equipment being used and see some photo’s of the room and equipment to ensure the engineer is reputable before choosing your engineer.
